Jimmy Collins studied film under award-winning filmmakers Ross McElwee and Robb Moss at Harvard University, where he received a degree in Visual and Environmental Studies in 2007. Jimmy was one of four American scholars awarded the first-ever Fulbright/mtvU Fellowship in 2007, which brought him to South Africa to orchestrate a project involving music education and filmmaking in the historicallY impoverished South African townships. His work from that year was featured by MTV. After completing his Fulbright, Jimmy embarked on a year-long journey around the world, filming and volunteering in far-flung destinations across six continents.
Upon returning to the United States, Jimmy began work as a freelance director, carving a niche for himself as an expert interviewer, equally comfortable working with kids and adults, actors and non-actors. He formed Man At Large in 2009 to handle the demands of increasingly complex productions and began working on national television commercials for the award-winning digital education platform, ABCmouse, shortly thereafter. Over the past decade, Jimmy has had the opportunity to work with major global brands, like samsung, dell, Guess, Shell, and Pampers; award-winning artists, like chick corea, broken social scene, x japan, and my morning jacket; and many innovative and inspiring technology companies, agencies, and small businesses.
